commit 205e1e255c479f3fd77446415706463b282f94e4 upstream
Matt reported that we have a NULL pointer dereference
in ppp_pernet() from ppp_connect_channel(),
i.e. pch->chan_net is NULL.
This is due to that a parallel ppp_unregister_channel()
could happen while we are in ppp_connect_channel(), during
which pch->chan_net set to NULL. Since we need a reference
to net per channel, it makes sense to sync the refcnt
with the life time of the channel, therefore we should
release this reference when we destroy it.

Currently slhc_init() treats out-of-range values of rslots and tslots
as equivalent to 0, except that if tslots is too large it will
dereference a null pointer (CVE-2015-7799).
Add a range-check at the top of the function and make it return an
ERR_PTR() on error instead of NULL. Change the callers accordingly.
Compile-tested only.

We can't rely on PPPOX_ZOMBIE to decide whether to clear po->pppoe_dev.
PPPOX_ZOMBIE can be set by pppoe_disc_rcv() even when po->pppoe_dev is
NULL. So we have no guarantee that (sk->sk_state & PPPOX_ZOMBIE) implies
(po->pppoe_dev != NULL).
Since we're releasing a PPPoE socket, we want to release the pppoe_dev
if it exists and reset sk_state to PPPOX_DEAD, no matter the previous
value of sk_state. So we can just check for po->pppoe_dev and avoid any
assumption on sk->sk_state.

Merge commit 'v3.10.73' into LA.BF64.1.2.9
This merge brings us up to date with upstream kernel.org tag v3.10.73.
As part of the conflict resolution, changes introduced by commit 72684eae7
("arm64: Fix up /proc/cpuinfo") have been intentionally dropped, as they
conflict with Android changes msm-3.10 kernel to solve the problems
in a different way. Since userspace readers of this file may depend on
the existing msm-3.10 implementation, it's left as-is for now. The
commit may later be introduced if it is found to not impact userspaces
paired with this kernel.

When we've run out of space in the output buffer to store more data, we
will call zlib_deflate with a NULL output buffer until we've consumed
remaining input.
When this happens, olen contains the size the output buffer would have
consumed iff we'd have had enough room.
This can later cause skb_over_panic when ppp_generic skb_put()s
the returned length.

commit 24dff96a37a2ca319e75a74d3929b2de22447ca6 upstream.
we used to check for "nobody else could start doing anything with
that opened file" by checking that refcount was 2 or less - one
for descriptor table and one we'd acquired in fget() on the way to
wherever we are. That was race-prone (somebody else might have
had a reference to descriptor table and do fget() just as we'd
been checking) and it had become flat-out incorrect back when
we switched to fget_light() on those codepaths - unlike fget(),
it doesn't grab an extra reference unless the descriptor table
is shared. The same change allowed a race-free check, though -
we are safe exactly when refcount is less than 2.
It was a long time ago; pre-2.6.12 for ioctl() (the codepath leading
to ppp one) and 2.6.17 for sendmsg() (netlink one). OTOH,
netlink hadn't grown that check until 3.9 and ppp used to live
in drivers/net, not drivers/net/ppp until 3.1. The bug existed
well before that, though, and the same fix used to apply in old
location of file.

Ideally, we would need to generate IP ID using a per destination IP
generator.
linux kernels used inet_peer cache for this purpose, but this had a huge
cost on servers disabling MTU discovery.
1) each inet_peer struct consumes 192 bytes
2) inetpeer cache uses a binary tree of inet_peer structs,
with a nominal size of ~66000 elements under load.
3) lookups in this tree are hitting a lot of cache lines, as tree depth
is about 20.
4) If server deals with many tcp flows, we have a high probability of
not finding the inet_peer, allocating a fresh one, inserting it in
the tree with same initial ip_id_count, (cf secure_ip_id())
5) We garbage collect inet_peer aggressively.
IP ID generation do not have to be 'perfect'
Goal is trying to avoid duplicates in a short period of time,
so that reassembly units have a chance to complete reassembly of
fragments belonging to one message before receiving other fragments
with a recycled ID.
We simply use an array of generators, and a Jenkin hash using the dst IP
as a key.
ipv6_select_ident() is put back into net/ipv6/ip6_output.c where it
belongs (it is only used from this file)
secure_ip_id() and secure_ipv6_id() no longer are needed.
Rename ip_select_ident_more() to ip_select_ident_segs() to avoid
unnecessary decrement/increment of the number of segments.

The PPP channel MTU is used with Multilink PPP when ppp_mp_explode() (see
ppp_generic module) tries to determine how big a fragment might be. According
to RFC 1661, the MTU excludes the 2-byte PPP protocol field, see the
corresponding comment and code in ppp_mp_explode():
/*
* hdrlen includes the 2-byte PPP protocol field, but the
* MTU counts only the payload excluding the protocol field.
* (RFC1661 Section 2)
*/
mtu = pch->chan->mtu - (hdrlen - 2);
However, the pppoe module *does* include the PPP protocol field in the channel
MTU, which is wrong as it causes the PPP payload to be 1-2 bytes too big under
certain circumstances (one byte if PPP protocol compression is used, two
otherwise), causing the generated Ethernet packets to be dropped. So the pppoe
module has to subtract two bytes from the channel MTU. This error only
manifests itself when using Multilink PPP, as otherwise the channel MTU is not
used anywhere.
In the following, I will describe how to reproduce this bug. We configure two
pppd instances for multilink PPP over two PPPoE links, say eth2 and eth3, with
a MTU of 1492 bytes for each link and a MRRU of 2976 bytes. (This MRRU is
computed by adding the two link MTUs and subtracting the MP header twice, which
is 4 bytes long.) The necessary pppd statements on both sides are "multilink
mtu 1492 mru 1492 mrru 2976". On the client side, we additionally need "plugin
rp-pppoe.so eth2" and "plugin rp-pppoe.so eth3", respectively; on the server
side, we additionally need to start two pppoe-server instances to be able to
establish two PPPoE sessions, one over eth2 and one over eth3. We set the MTU
of the PPP network interface to the MRRU (2976) on both sides of the connection
in order to make use of the higher bandwidth. (If we didn't do that, IP
fragmentation would kick in, which we want to avoid.)
Now we send a ICMPv4 echo request with a payload of 2948 bytes from client to
server over the PPP link. This results in the following network packet:
2948 (echo payload)
+ 8 (ICMPv4 header)
+ 20 (IPv4 header)
---------------------
2976 (PPP payload)
These 2976 bytes do not exceed the MTU of the PPP network interface, so the
IP packet is not fragmented. Now the multilink PPP code in ppp_mp_explode()
prepends one protocol byte (0x21 for IPv4), making the packet one byte bigger
than the negotiated MRRU. So this packet would have to be divided in three
fragments. But this does not happen as each link MTU is assumed to be two bytes
larger. So this packet is diveded into two fragments only, one of size 1489 and
one of size 1488. Now we have for that bigger fragment:
1489 (PPP payload)
+ 4 (MP header)
+ 2 (PPP protocol field for the MP payload (0x3d))
+ 6 (PPPoE header)
--------------------------
1501 (Ethernet payload)
This packet exceeds the link MTU and is discarded.
If one configures the link MTU on the client side to 1501, one can see the
discarded Ethernet frames with tcpdump running on the client. A
ping -s 2948 -c 1 192.168.15.254
leads to the smaller fragment that is correctly received on the server side:
(tcpdump -vvvne -i eth3 pppoes and ppp proto 0x3d)
52:54:00:ad:87:fd > 52:54:00:79:5c:d0, ethertype PPPoE S (0x8864),
length 1514: PPPoE [ses 0x3] MLPPP (0x003d), length 1494: seq 0x000,
Flags [end], length 1492
and to the bigger fragment that is not received on the server side:
(tcpdump -vvvne -i eth2 pppoes and ppp proto 0x3d)
52:54:00:70:9e:89 > 52:54:00:5d:6f:b0, ethertype PPPoE S (0x8864),
length 1515: PPPoE [ses 0x5] MLPPP (0x003d), length 1495: seq 0x000,
Flags [begin], length 1493
With the patch below, we correctly obtain three fragments:
52:54:00:ad:87:fd > 52:54:00:79:5c:d0, ethertype PPPoE S (0x8864),
length 1514: PPPoE [ses 0x1] MLPPP (0x003d), length 1494: seq 0x000,
Flags [begin], length 1492
52:54:00:70:9e:89 > 52:54:00:5d:6f:b0, ethertype PPPoE S (0x8864),
length 1514: PPPoE [ses 0x1] MLPPP (0x003d), length 1494: seq 0x000,
Flags [none], length 1492
52:54:00:ad:87:fd > 52:54:00:79:5c:d0, ethertype PPPoE S (0x8864),
length 27: PPPoE [ses 0x1] MLPPP (0x003d), length 7: seq 0x000,
Flags [end], length 5
And the ICMPv4 echo request is successfully received at the server side:
IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 21925, offset 0, flags [DF], proto ICMP (1),
length 2976)
192.168.222.2 > 192.168.15.254: ICMP echo request, id 30530, seq 0,
length 2956
The bug was introduced in commit c9aa689537
("[PPPOE]: Advertise PPPoE MTU") from the very beginning. This patch applies
to 3.10 upwards but the fix can be applied (with minor modifications) to
kernels as old as 2.6.32.

This patch now always passes msg->msg_namelen as 0. recvmsg handlers must
set msg_namelen to the proper size <= sizeof(struct sockaddr_storage)
to return msg_name to the user.
This prevents numerous uninitialized memory leaks we had in the
recvmsg handlers and makes it harder for new code to accidentally leak
uninitialized memory.
Optimize for the case recvfrom is called with NULL as address. We don't
need to copy the address at all, so set it to NULL before invoking the
recvmsg handler. We can do so, because all the recvmsg handlers must
cope with the case a plain read() is called on them. read() also sets
msg_name to NULL.
Also document these changes in include/linux/net.h as suggested by David
Miller.
Changes since RFC:
Set msg->msg_name = NULL if user specified a NULL in msg_name but had a
non-null msg_namelen in verify_iovec/verify_compat_iovec. This doesn't
affect sendto as it would bail out earlier while trying to copy-in the
address. It also more naturally reflects the logic by the callers of
verify_iovec.
With this change in place I could remove "
if (!uaddr || msg_sys->msg_namelen == 0)
msg->msg_name = NULL
".
This change does not alter the user visible error logic as we ignore
msg_namelen as long as msg_name is NULL.
Also remove two unnecessary curly brackets in ___sys_recvmsg and change
comments to netdev style.

If local fragmentation is allowed, then ip_select_ident() and
ip_select_ident_more() need to generate unique IDs to ensure
correct defragmentation on the peer.
For example, if IPsec (tunnel mode) has to encrypt large skbs
that have local_df bit set, then all IP fragments that belonged
to different ESP datagrams would have used the same identificator.
If one of these IP fragments would get lost or reordered, then
peer could possibly stitch together wrong IP fragments that did
not belong to the same datagram. This would lead to a packet loss
or data corruption.

PPP handles packet loss but does not work with out of order packets.
This change performs reordering of incoming data packets within a
sliding window of one second. Since sequence number is optional,
receiving a packet without it will drop all queued packets.
Currently the logic is triggered by incoming packets, so queued
packets have to wait till another packet is arrived. It is done for
simplicity since no additional locks or threads are required. For
reliable protocols, a retransmission will kick it. For unreliable
protocols, queued packets just seem like packet loss. Time-critical
protocols might be broken, but they never work with queueing anyway.

net: Fix a potential deadlock while releasing PPPoLAC/PPPoPNS socket.
PPP driver guarantees that no thread will be executing start_xmit() after
returning from ppp_unregister_channel(). To achieve this, a spinlock (downl)
is used. In pppolac_release(), ppp_unregister_channel() is called after sk_udp
is locked. At the same time, another thread might be running in pppolac_xmit()
with downl. Thus a deadlock will occur if the thread tries to lock sk_udp.
The same situation might happen on sk_raw in pppopns_release().

net: Force PPPoLAC and PPPoPNS to bind an interface before creating PPP channel.
It is common to manipulate the routing table after configuring PPP device.
Since both PPPoLAC and PPPoPNS run over IP, care must be taken to make sure
that there is no loop in the routing table.
Although this can be done by adding a host route, it might still cause
problems when the interface is down for some reason.
To solve this, this patch forces both drivers to bind an interface before
creating PPP channel, so the system will not re-route the tunneling sockets
to another interface when the original one is down. Another benefit is that
now the host route is no longer required, so there is no need to remove it
when PPP channel is closed.

net: Avoid sleep-inside-spinlock in PPPoLAC and PPPoPNS.
Since recv() and xmit() are called with a spinlock held, routines which might
sleep cannot be used. This issue is solved by following changes:
Incoming packets are now processed in backlog handler, recv_core(), instead of
recv(). Since backlog handler is always executed with socket spinlock held, the
requirement of ppp_input() is still satisfied.
Outgoing packets are now processed in workqueue handler, xmit_core(), instead of
xmit(). Note that kernel_sendmsg() is no longer used to prevent touching dead
sockets.
In release(), lock_sock() and pppox_unbind_sock() ensure that no thread is in
recv_core() or xmit(). Then socket handlers are restored before release_sock(),
so no packets will leak in backlog queue.

tty_perform_flush() can deadlock when called while holding
a line discipline reference. By definition, all ldisc drivers
hold a ldisc reference, so calls originating from ldisc drivers
must not block for a ldisc reference.
The deadlock can occur when:
CPU 0 | CPU 1
|
tty_ldisc_ref(tty) |
.... | <line discipline halted>
tty_ldisc_ref_wait(tty) |
|
CPU 0 cannot progess because it cannot obtain an ldisc reference
with the line discipline has been halted (thus no new references
are granted).
CPU 1 cannot progress because an outstanding ldisc reference
has not been released.
An in-tree call-tree audit of tty_perform_flush() [1] shows 5
ldisc drivers calling tty_perform_flush() indirectly via
n_tty_ioctl_helper() and 2 ldisc drivers calling directly.
A single tty driver safely uses the function.
[1]
Recursive usage:
/* These functions are line discipline ioctls and thus
* recursive wrt line discipline references */
tty_perform_flush() - ./drivers/tty/tty_ioctl.c
n_tty_ioctl_helper()
hci_uart_tty_ioctl(default) - drivers/bluetooth/hci_ldisc.c (N_HCI)

ppp_synctty_ioctl(TCFLSH) - drivers/net/ppp/pps_synctty.c
ppp_asynctty_ioctl(TCFLSH) - drivers/net/ppp/ppp_async.c
Non-recursive use:
tty_perform_flush() - drivers/tty/tty_ioctl.c
ipw_ioctl(TCFLSH) - drivers/tty/ipwireless/tty.c

The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.
The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.
bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by
removing TTY. The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk

Commit e675f0cc9a ("ppp: Don't stop and
restart queue on every TX packet") introduced a race condition which
could leave the net queue stopped even when the channel is no longer
busy. By calling netif_stop_queue() from ppp_start_xmit(), based on the
return value from ppp_xmit_process() but *after* all the locks have been
dropped, we could potentially do so *after* the channel has actually
finished transmitting and attempted to re-wake the queue.
Fix this by moving the netif_stop_queue() into ppp_xmit_process() under
the xmit lock. I hadn't done this previously, because it gets called
from other places than ppp_start_xmit(). But I now think it's the better
option. The net queue *should* be stopped if the channel becomes
congested due to writes from pppd, anyway.
